I am Director of the Bioinformatics Core at Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory (MDIBL). My group is a resource for investigators from a network of 12 research institutions, colleges and universities in Maine. My research includes development of the Comparative Models of Regeneration Database that seeks to provide a systems-level view of regenerative biology and stem cell self-renewal, evolution of animal complexity, little skate (Leucoraja erinacea) genome project, killifish (Fundulus heteroclitus) genome project and the Comparative Toxicogenomics Database. I also have a long-term interest in bioinformatics education. I help teach a number of courses, including the Applied Bioinformatics and Environmental Genomics courses at MDIBL, which I also co-organize. I have also been the lead instructor for the Genome Access Course at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory since 2005.
