The Bioinfo-Core COSI session brought together managers and staff working in bioinformatics core facilities around the world.

Our keynote speaker James McCafferty, CIO of Sanger Institute discussed the current setup, challenges, and work underway at Sanger, touching on the way in which infrastructure and data management can best support the science going on during the digital transformation of science.

We had lightning talks on the following topics:

Patricia Carvajal-López from EMBL-EBI spoke about current and future efforts to develop a competency framework for people who staff and manage core facilities. She also mentioned the course on managing a bioinformatics core facility put on by EMBL-EBI (deadline August 7th).

Kübra Narci from Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum spoke about standardizing and harmonizing workflows in the German Human Genome-Phenome Archive (GHGA), which involves cloud infrastructure, security, ethics, and trying to be FAIR. GHGA is working with nf-core to standardize workflows and data analysis. This effort will enable cross-project analysis and promote new collaborations and research.
