Rachad Badrawi has been professionally involved in blending biomedical sciences and computer sciences for over a decade. He used to work at the University of Toronto (UofT) as a Senior Computational Biologist where he laid the data pipeline foundation for GeneMania, a gene function prediction system. He also led the data conversion and standardization of the BIND biomolecular interactions database.
Before coming to UofT, Rachad played a leading role in software projects in bioinformatics and medical informatics for major employers in the US, Canada, and overseas, including: University of Connecticut Medical Center, Faisal Specialist Hospital, Incyte Genomics, Curagen, and Nightingale Informatix. Rachad is also a member of Canada Health Infoway, and is currently serving a two-year term on the HL-7 Canada Council: a volunteer, yet highly acclaimed, leadership positions dealing with e-health standards.
Rachad's education is also in line with his career interests. He earned a Bachelor in Biology from the American University of Beirut, and two master from Northeastern University in Boston: one in pharmacology and the other in Information Systems. He also had a brief earlier career as a high school teacher and has an interest in mentoring and presenting as well.
