I lead the Bioinformatics Support Unit at Newcastle University, UK. I am a molecular biologist by training, gaining my PhD in Drosophila genetics (I studied the control of signal transduction during development) from Leicester University, before retraining as a Bioinformatician by taking a Masters degree at Leeds University (see http://bioinformatics.oxfordjournals.org/content/23/5/573 for more information about what I got up to while there). I've worked in Newcastle since 2005, and have managed the unit since 2011.
